Ruth MasukaRESEARCH ASSISTANT
Ruth Masuka (she/her) is a student, educator, and community organizer fascinated by the ways in which art functions as a mechanism for trauma-informed care, peace-building processes and community capacity-building. She is currently completing her Masters of Social Work at the University of Toronto, specializing in Community Development with a focus on working for children and their families. Prior to her Masters, Ruth completed her H.B.A at the University of Toronto in Peace, Conflict & Justice and Diaspora & Transnational Studies.
A firm believer of ‘nothing about us, without us’, Ruth sees creative practices as both a form of expression and action within marginalized communities. Ruth's research has been centered around how joy is a radical act of resistance. This has led her to explore how informal spaces, grassroot networks and local institutions are potent sites of bottom-up civic engagement. As someone with lived experiences of the complex grief, systemic inequities, and marginalization, Ruth is interested in participating in CRIB's research that is for the community, by the community. |
